Steps to Create your own Unique Home Management System
This is the fun part! Everyone likes to plan and organize, but in order to do that you need something you can refer back to! A home management planner can be a great way to organize and keep everything written down!
There are also many printable options on Etsy! You can choose a design that works for you, and simply print it out and place it in a binder! However, don’t get stuck on finding the right planner. You don’t have to find the perfect planner to get started. The important thing is that you just get started!
In most cases it helps to have everything written out in one place so you can easily find it, but if you work better with the notes app on your phone or a simple pen and notepad use that! Whatever method you will be the most consistent with is the method you should choose.
1. Examine your current home management systems
You likely already have some systems in place in your household. The key here is to get organized and optimize these areas of your household and life.
The goal is to create systems that help your family and home function efficiently. The more streamlined you make processes in your home, the more time you will have to focus on what really matters. Spending quality time with your people, and actually living life.
Do you hate your current cleaning routine? Is the trash constantly overflowing? Take the time to see what is and isn’t working. Now is the time to optimize these areas of your life!
2. Figure out what your priorities are…and go from there!
Before you can create a system that works for you, you must ask yourself what your priorities are. Your system must be based on your own personal situation, and what is realistic for your family.
For example, there are some moms who implement and prioritize rigid cleaning schedules that for some moms are totally unrealistic. It is important to remember that everyone is different, and sometimes your personal situation and values will not align with certain things, and that is OKAY. It is not worth driving yourself crazy over! You should embrace your chaos, and do what works best for you and your family!
After you have established what your priorities are it is time to get organized! Starting with your priorities will help narrow down where you should start in creating your own home management system.
3. Tackle one area of your household at a time
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither will your home management system. Managing a household is complex, and will take consistent time and dedication to build the proper systems.
After you have established what your priorities are list out all of the different areas or categories in your household including the people. Next, you can list out all of the tasks and to-dos in each category.
To avoid getting overwhelmed I recommend focusing on one area/category at a time that you want to plan or optimize, and giving yourself adequate time to work on it. It could take days or even weeks, so don’t get discouraged. The key is to stick with it, and stay organized along the way!
Make sure to finish optimizing each area before moving on to another!
Final Thoughts
Creating an effective home management system is a labor of love. However, we owe it to ourselves and our families to find a system that helps us all live and thrive! To avoid getting overwhelmed it is best to stay organized and focus on one area at a time.
With thoughtful intent, you can create a unique home management system that will suit the needs of your family for years to come!
